Another banger from Mezquital’s storied de la Cruz family! Masparillo here refers to a member of the A. maximiliana family which grows throughout parts of Durango, Nayarit, Zacatecas, Jalisco, and Sinaloa. It is a medium-sized plant that takes around 9 years to mature with wide, fat leaves (pencas) that taper into a narrow spade shape.
