The Lagrein Riserva DOC Vigna Castel Ringberg 2023 by Elena Walch is a powerful South Tyrolean red wine with a strong sense of origin and remarkable depth. Elena Walch is one of Alto Adige’s most prestigious wineries, renowned for terroir-driven, sustainably produced wines with international acclaim. The designation “Riserva” in Alto Adige DOC wines indicates a longer ageing period compared to the standard version. This extended maturation enhances structure, complexity and ageing potential. In Lagrein, it results in greater depth, finer tannins and a more harmonious, refined profile. The single vineyard Vigna Castel Ringberg, located above Lake Caldaro, is one of the estate’s most prestigious sites. Its sunny exposure, Mediterranean-influenced climate and calcareous soils provide ideal conditions for Lagrein, an indigenous grape variety of Alto Adige known for dark fruit, spice and powerful structure. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red colour with garnet reflections. The nose reveals aromas of ripe forest berries, cherry and plum, complemented by subtle spicy and toasted notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, structured and elegant, with well-integrated tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish. A Lagrein Riserva with excellent ageing potential.
