Alois Lageder, Grafengasse 9, 39040 Margreid an der Weinstraße (BZ), IT

The Lagrein IGT Mitterberg BIO 2023 from Alois Lageder is an outstanding representative of this autochthonous South Tyrolean grape variety. Lagrein, a cross between Teroldego and another local grape variety, is related to Syrah and thrives excellently in the warm areas of the Bolzano valley basin. These areas are known for their sandy, gravelly and porphyry soils, which give the wine its characteristic freshness and minerality.

The wine has a cherry red colour with ruby red shimmer. The scent develops intense, fruity aromas of plums and berries, complemented by spicy and slightly animalistic notes. On the palate, it is medium-weight, full-bodied and fresh, with a noticeable tannin and a bittersweet aftertaste. Lagrein 2023 is certified organic and is grown according to biodynamic principles, which promotes natural biodiversity and vineyard health.

This wine is characterized by its expressive structure and ability to reflect the influences of the terroir. The climate in the growing areas of Bolzano, Auer and Margreid is characterized by warm days and cool nights, which help the grapes develop lively acidity and intense aromas. Vinification includes malolactic fermentation, which takes place partly in stainless steel and partly in concrete tanks, as well as mash fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
