Sensory :
Deep garnet in color, Phos opens with concentrated aromas of black cherry, pepper, anise, and mineral undertones. On the palate, it reveals a core of dark fruit framed by vibrant acidity and fine, natural tannins. Voluminous yet soft, it glides across the mouth with a savory, earthy richness and a long, textured finish that speaks directly of volcanic soil and amphora aging.
Winemaker’s Background:
I Cacciagalli is a young but visionary estate in Teano, in northern Campania’s Alto Casertano, where agronomist Diana Iannaccone and her husband, wine lover Mario Basco, cultivate nine hectares of indigenous vines. Rooted in the fertile soils of Roccamonfina’s extinct volcano, the estate follows biodynamic principles to craft wines that honor the land. Nearly all production ages in terracotta amphorae, an ancient Mediterranean vessel that allows wines to evolve naturally while maintaining an unfiltered link to their origins. Their philosophy reflects both a personal life journey and a shared devotion to authenticity, territory, and the timeless culture of wine.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve at 60°F (16°C) to highlight its aromatic depth and structure. A perfect partner for grilled meats, slow-roasted lamb, or hearty stews, it also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and rustic mushroom dishes. Its balance of richness and freshness makes it versatile at the table, equally at home with elegant dinner settings or traditional Italian fare.
The 2018 I Cacciagalli ‘Phos’ Roccamonfina IGT is more than a wine; it is an unfiltered reflection of volcanic terroir and human devotion, a soulful Aglianico that carries the story of land, tradition, and love in every sip.
