Description
Ferreira Porto Superior Tawny – A Traditional Tawny from the 70s/80s, Rich in Finesse and Maturity
The Ferreira Porto Superior Tawny, presumed to have been bottled in the 1970s or 1980s, is a fine example of the craftsmanship of Ferreira, one of Portugal’s oldest and most respected Port houses, founded in 1751. Renowned for its commitment to tradition and quality, Ferreira is a true symbol of the Douro Valley’s heritage.
This Superior Tawny was aged in oak casks, giving it a beautiful amber robe with copper highlights and an evolved, layered aromatic profile. With time, the wine has developed complex notes of dried fruits (walnut, fig, almond), caramel, sweet spices, and a noble oxidative character reminiscent of old wood and beeswax.
On the palate, it offers a silky texture, with sweetness that is perfectly balanced by a gentle freshness, leading to a long, harmonious finish. This Tawny is best served slightly chilled at the end of a meal, with aged cheese, nut-based desserts, or simply on its own to appreciate its full depth.
This bottle is not only a charming oenological time capsule, but also a rare witness to an era when Tawny Ports were made with patience, care, and profound respect for time.
