Description
Château Cantenac 1979 – Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
The 1979 Château Cantenac, from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, comes from a vintage often considered understated, yet now beautifully evolved. The 1979 growing season produced wines of moderate ripeness, favouring balance and elegance over power. After more than four decades of ageing, this Saint-Émilion offers a calm, softened and harmonious expression.
The colour shows a very evolved garnet hue with pronounced brick tones at the rim, reflecting long ageing. The nose is delicate and complex, revealing stewed red fruits, dried plum and fig, followed by well-developed tertiary aromas of leather, blond tobacco, forest floor, dried leaves and a subtle truffle nuance typical of mature Right Bank Merlot.
On the palate, the wine is supple, refined and fully integrated. The tannins are completely resolved, supporting a light yet coherent texture with no rough edges. Evolved flavours of red fruit, gentle spices, damp earth and old oak unfold with restraint and elegance. The finish is delicate and persistent, leaving an impression of softness, classicism and serenity.
A charming and emotive mature Saint-Émilion Grand Cru — subtle, graceful and sincere — ideal for lovers of aged Bordeaux seeking finesse, authenticity and the quiet beauty of time-worn wines.
