Description

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 1981 – Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

Located on the prestigious limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, just a stone’s throw from the medieval village, Château Beau-Séjour Bécot is one of the iconic names of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé, the estate is renowned for producing elegant, structured wines with excellent aging potential.

The 1981 vintage was a relatively classic year in Bordeaux, marked by an uneven summer and an early harvest. While weather conditions were not optimal, the best terroirs — such as the limestone soils of Beau-Séjour Bécot — allowed for the creation of balanced, refined wines. The 1981 Beau-Séjour Bécot captures this vintage’s subtlety, offering the expression of great terroir in a modest but authentic year.

After more than four decades, the wine presents a brick-hued robe with orange highlights. The nose is delicate and evolved, with aromas of dried leaves, truffle, blond tobacco, prune, and forest floor. The palate is soft and mature, with integrated tannins, fresh acidity, and a persistent mineral finish. Once firm, the tannic structure has now melted into a silky, harmonious texture.

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot 1981 is a wine of maturity, best appreciated for its finesse, aromatic depth, and balance. It pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as veal sweetbreads with mushrooms, roast poultry, or aged soft cheeses.
