The Riesling Privat Hochäcker 1. Lage 2018 from Weingut Nigl is a striking single-vineyard wine from Austria’s Kremstal. The Hochäcker vineyard is classified as a “1. Lage” by the ÖTW, recognizing sites of outstanding quality and terroir expression. This Riesling, grown on ancient primary rock soils, displays great depth and precision. In the glass, it shines golden yellow with greenish hints. The nose is layered and mature with aromas of apricot, citrus peel, candied ginger and wet stone. On the palate, it is juicy, focused, and mineral-driven, with a lively acidity and long, elegant finish. Despite its age, it shows remarkable freshness and tension. A distinctive, site-driven Riesling for connoisseurs of structured and expressive wines.
