Weißburgunder DOC Sirmian 2023 from Nals Margreid is an elegant, multi-layered white wine from Alto Adige (South Tyrol) DOC, showcasing the impressive potential of this grape variety in an alpine wine region. The grapes come from steep, south-east facing vineyards above Nals, where morainic soils featuring porphyry, marble, gneiss and mica—together with cool nights and warm days—create ideal conditions for slow ripening and aromatic precision. Following careful hand-harvesting, fermentation and ageing take place for around 7–8 months in stainless steel tanks and large wooden casks, resulting in a refined, deep white wine with clear fruit and mineral tension. The Weißburgunder (Pinot Bianco) grape appears in the glass with a bright straw-yellow colour, highlighting youth and vitality. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet with aromas of green apple, citrus fruit and ripe pineapple, supported by floral nuances and a subtle mineral freshness that adds elegance and definition. On the palate, Sirmian 2023 is fresh, lively and well balanced, driven by fine, racy acidity and an attractive salty minerality that shapes the wine and leads into a long, elegant finish. The combination of fruit, structure and mineral tension makes this Weißburgunder an outstanding expression of its origin and a truly refined South Tyrolean white.
