The Moulis-en-Médoc 2016 from Château Poujeaux is an outstanding Bordeaux wine that embodies the best qualities of its region. This wine is a careful blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. These grape varieties each contribute to the complexity and structure of the wine: Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and black fruit aromas, Merlot adds velvety textures and red fruit notes, and Petit Verdot brings depth and
spice.
The color of the wine is deep ruby red with purple reflections. The bouquet is complex and multi-layered with aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries, licorice, smoke and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe, soft tannins and a long-lasting, juicy finish. Notes of dark berries, spices and a subtle woody note round off the taste experience
. The
elegant and structured wines, which come from the gravelly soils and the temperate, maritime climate of the region, are typical of this wine and the Moulis-en-Médoc wine-growing zone. These conditions promote the slow ripening of grapes and the development of complex aromas. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, with 30% of the barrels being new. This gives the wine extra depth and a fine woody note without masking the fruitiness.
