The Merlot Riserva DOC Nussleiten 2019 from Castel Sallegg impresses with its dark ruby red and combines the depth and complexity that connoisseurs expect from first-class Merlot. This wine develops a complex bouquet of ripe berries, fine roasted aromas and spicy notes of pepper and wild fruits, complemented by subtle hints of coffee, cocoa and pine needles. On the palate, it impresses with its dense tannin structure and velvety fullness, which combine with alpine freshness and strong presence to create a long, elegant finish. The term “Riserva” in the name of this wine refers to an
extended aging period.
Nussleiten Merlot grows in the Seehof vineyard, a location that is ideally oriented south towards Lake Kaltern and is protected by the north-facing mountains. These geographical conditions help the grapes ripen under optimal conditions and develop their characteristic color intensity and aromatic complexity. The aging of the wine follows a careful process, which begins with manual harvesting and selection of the best grapes, followed by mash fermentation and 18-month barrique aging. After blending, the wine ages in the bottle for a further 12 months before being sold
