Description

Château Greysac 1974 – Médoc (Magnum)

The 1974 magnum of Château Greysac, from the Médoc appellation, is a rare and moving example of a challenging vintage enhanced by its large format. The 1974 growing season in Bordeaux was difficult, producing wines of moderate structure and early approachability. However, ageing in magnum has allowed this Greysac to evolve more slowly and harmoniously, reaching a fine state of balance today.

The colour shows a very evolved garnet hue with pronounced brick tones at the rim, reflecting long ageing. The nose is refined and nuanced, offering stewed red fruits, redcurrant and plum, followed by tertiary aromas of leather, blond tobacco, forest floor, dried leaves and old wood. A light smoky and spicy note recalls the Médoc identity.

On the palate, the wine is supple, delicate and fully resolved. The tannins are completely softened, supporting a light yet coherent texture with no rough edges. Evolved flavours of red fruit, damp earth, gentle spices and noble oak unfold with elegance and restraint. The finish is fine and persistent, leaving an impression of classicism, softness and serenity.

A charming and authentic mature Médoc, all the more remarkable in magnum, ideal for lovers of aged Bordeaux who value finesse, timeworn elegance and the honest expression of a modest vintage elevated by format and ageing.
