Lagrein DOC Rubatsch BIO 2022 has a fascinating aroma and depth that immediately captivates wine lovers. This wine is made from the indigenous Lagrein grape variety, which is appreciated for its deep dark color and intense aromas. Two thirds of the grapes come from the Rubatsch vineyard in Terlan and one third from the Seehof vineyard in Kaltern. Rubatsch, a south-western slope at 250 m above sea level with sandy soil on porphyry weathered rock, gives the wine fineness and elegance. Seehof, also at 250 m above sea level with loamy limestone and lake views, provides strength and structure.
Mash fermentation takes place in a wooden tub, spontaneously with the grape’s own yeasts. Two weeks of maceration with daily immersion of the pomace cake allow careful extraction of dyes and tannins. The wine ages in barriques for sixteen months, with only every fifth barrel being new, which gives the wine maturity and harmony.
The Lagrein DOC Rubatsch BIO 2022 is almost opaque purple. The nose is dominated by dark berry fruit aromas, ripe plums, elderberry syrup and licorice, which indicates the complexity of the wine. On the palate, the wine is dense and tannic, but at the same time soft and velvety in the mouth.
