The Lagrein Riserva DOC Amperg Identity – 2021 by Klaus Lentsch is an expressive red wine made from the autochthonous Lagrein grape variety, which is particularly characteristic of the South Tyrolean lowlands. This wine is characterized by a medium-deep, intense cherry red color with ruby red reflections. The scent reveals a spicy aroma with hints of leather, tar and cocoa, complemented by floral nuances, which underlines the typical rustic yet elegant nature of Lagrein. In terms of taste, the wine has a full, rather mild taste with an “earthy” aftertaste and noticeable tannin, which gives it a pleasant texture.
The peculiarity of this wine lies in its classification as “Riserva”, which means prolonged aging. Especially for the amperg, this means a maturing period that goes beyond the usual level in order to promote the complexity and elegance of the wine. Lagrein Riserva is characterized by prolonged storage in barriques, which not only gives it depth but also a remarkable structure.
The vineyards for this special wine are located on porphyry soils, which are typical of the South Tyrolean lowlands. This type of soil supports the development of intensely aromatic grapes, which gives the wine its characteristic aromas and deep color.
