The Lagrein DOC Latus 2023 from Weingut Ritterhof is deep ruby red with purple reflections. On the nose, delicate and spicy notes of ripe sour cherries, wild berries and chocolate develop. On the palate, the wine is strong and full-bodied, with a harmonious structure and soft tannins that result in a long, satisfying finish.
This wine is made from 100% Lagrein, an autochthonous grape variety from South Tyrol, which is particularly appreciated for its intense aromas and strong structure. The vines grow in the region’s sandy, gravelly soils, which are known for their mineral quality. The climate in the growing region is characterized by mild temperatures and sufficient sunlight, which promotes the ripening of the grapes.
Lagrein is characterized by its intense color and strong aromas, which are further enhanced by the long aging period in oak barrels. The latus (The complex) is aged for 12 months in large oak barrels, which gives it additional complexity and depth. An interesting detail for wine lovers is that Lagrein is an old grape variety that has been cultivated in South Tyrol for centuries and is considered one of the most important red varieties in the region.
