The 2021 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru offers notable depth to play off its mid-weight personality. Crushed red berry fruit, blueberry, spice, lavender and dried herbs build nicely in the glass. The Caillerets is a bit somber, but it is also exquisite. There’s a lot of depth and dimension there. This will be a lot of fun to follow.

The 2021 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets reveals aromas of cherries, plums and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate that concludes with a slightly firm, herbal finish. Perhaps this cuvée was having an off day when I tasted it, as it’s normally a highlight.
