The Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois 2021 from Château Sociando-Mallet is an outstanding representative of the renowned Haut-Médoc appellation in Bordeaux. This wine consists of a classic Bordeaux blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine structure and depth, Merlot adds fruitiness and softness, while Cabernet Franc adds complexity and spicy notes.
The Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois 2021 shows a deep ruby red color. The bouquet unfolds intense aromas of dark currants, cigar wraps, cedarwood, spices and peppery herbs. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a lively structure, ripe tannins and fresh acidity, which ends in a long,
fruity finish.
The gravelly soils, which offer excellent drainage and help the grapes ripen optimally, are typical of the wines from the Haut-Médoc wine-growing zone. The continental climate, influenced by the proximity to the Gironde estuary, also contributes to
ideal growing conditions.
The wine maturing process involves manual harvesting and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 70-90% of which are new. This careful aging gives the wine extra depth and complexity.
