The grape variety Chardonnay is becoming increasingly important in Girlan. Poor clayey soils, low yields and gentle vinification bring a lot of freshness, good structure and its unique character of origin into the glass. Regarding food pairing Marna Chardonnay is versatile and goes well with vegetarian starters, several fish dishes and also white meat.

The 2022 Chardonnay Marna slowly blossoms in the glass as crushed stone and white flowers give way to hints of confectionary spice and freshly sliced pears. This is soothingly round and vividly fruit-focused, with ripe nectarines offset by lemon zest and a salty staining of minerality that amasses toward the close. The 2022 finishes long and full of youthful tension, leaving a citrusy concentration that lingers on and on.

This wine is steely and bright with good tension. The Girlan 2022 Alto Adige Chardonnay Marna shows crushed stone and initial saltines. On the palate, it fleshes out with mild texture. It fermented in stainless steel and oak, with partial malolactic fermentation, and saw six months on fine lees. Fruit comes from high-elevation vineyards with marl soils, hence the name “Marna.” 20,000 bottles were made.
