“Pineau des Charentes is a local specialty…most often served before a meal, but also delicious when poured inside a cantaloupe melon, accompanying foie gras, or as a dessert wine with fruit tarts. We also like using it as the sugar component in mixed drinks or incorporating it into a sauce with roasted meats and fish.

“This vieux pineau is made with a blend of 40% Merlot, 40% Ugni Blanc, and 20% Semillon, and has flavors that include white fruits (peach, pear) along with a slightly oxidized, nutty, nougat-like note.” —Charles Neal
