The Mazzei 2018 Chianti Classico Fonterutoli shows a classic bouquet with tart berry fruit, forest floor, bitter almond, blue flower, cola and grilled herb. The wine presents a classic, cool-vintage profile that suits Sangiovese very nicely as it pulls out the bright, red berry energy that is inherent to this variety. The acidity and bright fruit presented here would make a great companion to chicken roast with potatoes.

The 2018 Chianti Classico Fonterutoli is pretty, supple and easy to like. Soft fruit and silky contours give it quite a bit of appeal and early accessibility. Sweet cherry and plum fruit are nicely pushed forward in this attractive, easygoing Chianti Classico from Fonterutoli.

The shy nose eventually reveals plum, blue flower and earthy whiffs of truffle and damp soil. The straightforward, subtle palate is between light and medium bodied, suggesting sour cherry and star anise alongside dusty tannins. It closes on a coffee-bean note. Drink through 2022.
