Description

Château Petit-Faurie-de-Soutard 1970 – A Mature Expression of a Great Terroir

Château Petit-Faurie-de-Soutard, a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, is a discreet but distinguished estate located near the renowned Château Soutard, on the prestigious limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. Its clay-limestone soils give the wine structure, freshness, and excellent aging potential.

The 1970 vintage is regarded as one of the best of the decade in Bordeaux, marked by ideal growing conditions that allowed for full phenolic ripeness. The wines from this year are known for their generous tannins, concentration, and balance.

Now, after more than 50 years of aging, Château Petit-Faurie-de-Soutard 1970 reveals a wine at full maturity. The robe shows a brick-orange hue with mahogany reflections, while the nose offers elegant tertiary aromas: aged leather, cigar box, truffle, prune, soft spices, and forest floor. The palate is smooth and refined, with melted tannins and a long, silky finish that highlights the wine’s finesse and harmony.

This is a wine of quiet emotion — rare and delicate — best appreciated on its own or with subtle pairings such as roast squab, porcini risotto, or aged Comté cheese.
