Château Meyney St. Estephe 2019Château Meyney St. Estephe 2018Beautiful deep, intense red colour. The complex bouquet is still closed-in, but already showing concentration typical of the finest vintages. Hints of red fruit with woodland aromas and gamey nuances. Elegant, distinguished tannins on the palate. Strong and heady. Outstanding balance and power representative of the greatest wines of Saint-Estèphe.

Typical of Saint-Estèphe, this wine is totally closed up. It is more tannins than fruit at this stage of its development. But it is obvious that there is fruit there, and that it will develop. But for now, it’s a case of watch this space.

Love the spicy, nutmeg and floral nose to this. Medium-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a medium finish. Tight now, but should come around. Should be a bit better. Best after 2007.

The 2000 Château Meyney was panned on release. Now after 15 years…? Well, it’s slightly better but no great shakes. The nose is just rather muddled with mulberry and stewed plum scents mixed with high-toned iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, mealy in the mouth with a blunt, ham-fisted finish that just lacks freshness. It’s drinkable, but not enjoyable. Tasted April 2015.
