Description
Château du Breuil 1982 – Coteaux du Layon
The Château du Breuil 1982, from the Coteaux du Layon appellation, is a magnificent expression of Loire Valley sweet wine crafted from Chenin Blanc. The warm 1982 vintage, ideal for the development of noble rot, produced wines of great richness, concentration, and extraordinary ageing potential — qualities superbly reflected in this bottle.
The wine displays a deep amber-gold colour with copper highlights, signalling noble evolution. The nose is opulent and complex, offering honey, dried apricot, candied quince, roasted peach, and candied citrus, along with tertiary notes of beeswax, soft spices, blond caramel, dried fruits, and a delicate botrytised character.
On the palate, the wine is lush, silky, and expansive, carried by generous sweetness beautifully balanced by a vibrant acidity, the signature of Chenin Blanc. Flavours of honey, fruit paste, candied orange, fig, and a faint mineral lift unfold with precision. The finish is long, warm, and complex, lingering on honeyed and spicy notes.
A majestic Coteaux du Layon, perfectly evolved yet still vibrant, ideal for lovers of great sweet wines and a testament to the exceptional ageing capacity of Chenin Blanc.
