Sensory :
In the glass, this wine shows a deep, dark hue with garnet edges. The nose opens with aromas of morello cherry, wild berries, cocoa, and black pepper. The palate is fleshy and supple, with bold dark fruit, blackberry, plum, underpinned by a fine thread of spice, warm earth, and a touch of pepper. Textured tannins lend structure, while the finish remains smooth and lingering.
Winemaker’s Background:
Château de Montfrin farms more than 120 hectares of organically certified vineyards spanning several appellations, including Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Costières de Nîmes, and Côteaux du Pont du Gard. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, native yeast fermentations, restrained oak use, and a focus on fruit purity. Jean-René de Fleurieu directs the estate with a vision rooted in respect for both terroir and tradition.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve at 16–18 °C. This red is an excellent companion to grilled lamb, beef stews, ratatouille, and herb-roasted game. It also pairs well with aged cheeses, charcuterie, or classic Provencal dishes.
The 2022 Château de Montfrin Côtes du Rhône Rouge offers a flavorful and balanced expression of Rhône blending, fruit-forward, terroir-aware, and versatile. It can be enjoyed young for its dynamism or allowed to develop further complexity with a few years of bottle aging.
