Description

Château d’Agassac 1989 – The Warm Expression of a Classic Haut-Médoc

Located at the southern edge of the Médoc, in Ludon, near Margaux, Château d’Agassac is a historic estate dating back to the 13th century. Today, it is known for producing elegant, accessible wines and benefits from a terroir of deep gravel and sandy soils, ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the foundation of its blends.

The 1989 vintage, sunny and generous, ranks among Bordeaux’s great years. A hot, dry summer led to grapes with optimal ripeness, producing rich, structured, and well-balanced wines with excellent aging potential.

Now, after more than thirty years in the bottle, Château d’Agassac 1989 displays a garnet color with tiled, brick-like reflections — a sign of maturity. The nose is complex and fully evolved, offering aromas of leather, cedar, dried prune, blond tobacco, sweet spices, and forest floor. On the palate, it is smooth and elegant, with fully integrated tannins and a refreshing backbone. The finish is long and harmonious, with discreet and lasting finesse.

This is a mature Haut-Médoc that pairs beautifully with traditional cuisine: duck with figs, roasted rack of lamb, or aged hard cheeses. A lovely expression of the refined, classic Médoc style of the late 1980s.
