Chardonnay DOC Gaun BIO 2024 by Alois Lageder is an exceptional wine that perfectly showcases the quality and elegance of the Chardonnay grape. This wine is clear, bright straw yellow with a green tinge. The bouquet is fine and fruity, characterized by notes of ripe tropical fruits such as apricot and mango, accompanied by light butter aromas. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, lively and juicy, with a well-balanced structure and a dry, restrained yet opulent aftertaste.
The grapes for this Chardonnay come from organic farming and are cultivated according to biodynamic principles, which promotes natural biodiversity and the health of the vines. The wine is fermented partly on mash and partly as a whole grape and matures for about nine months on fine lees, partly in large wooden barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks. This method gives the wine extra depth and complexity.
An interesting detail for wine lovers: The name “Gaun” is reminiscent of the Barone Gaun family, who owned the Löwengang estate in the 17th century. This historical reference underlines the winery’s deep roots in the region and its long tradition of viticulture.
