Founded in the 1970s by Juan José Peñagarikano Akutain, Bodega Akutain is a small, family-owned estate in Rioja Alta, just outside Haro. Following a traditional château-style model, all wines come exclusively from estate vineyards located within 3 km of the winery. Today, the founder’s son, Jon Peñagarikano Akutain, oversees operations, continuing the legacy of low-intervention winemaking that highlights Rioja’s terroir. The winery features a historic cave cellar carved into the rock beneath the vineyards, alongside a barrel room and tasting spaces, reflecting both heritage and modern craftsmanship.
