Distiller’s Background:
Banhez Mezcal is the collective effort of over 36 families in the Ejutla region of Oaxaca, united under the vision of Francisco Javier Pérez Cruz. Raised in Oaxaca and deeply rooted in agave culture, Francisco returned to his homeland after years away and transformed a struggling local economy by bringing mezcal production back to life as a community-driven enterprise. With the founding of the Consejo Oaxaqueño del Maguey Mezcal and later UPADEC, he provided economic sustainability, training, and cooperative power to mezcaleros across the district. Today, his son Luis carries on the legacy, ensuring that tradition, ecology, and excellence remain at the heart of Banhez’s mission.
